Debra Egli James is a trial lawyer with a broad range of experience in litigation involving commercial, business and employment disputes, professional malpractice, tort defense, insurance coverage disputes, agricultural law issues, automobile liability, personal injury and complex litigation in both state and federal courts. She has successfully tried dozens of cases to a verdict.
Deb graduated with honors from Iowa State University in 1981 and from Drake University Law School in 1984. She served as a judicial law clerk to Iowa Supreme Court Justice Jerry L. Larson. She is a member and past President of the Saline-Ottawa County Bar Association and is licensed to practice law in Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska. She is also admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Kansas, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
In 1997, Deb was appointed by the Kansas Supreme Court to the Kansas Board of Discipline for Attorneys and has been a member of the Professional Ethics and Grievance Committee of the Kansas Bar Association since 1996. In 2002, she was appointed by Kansas Senators Pat Roberts and Sam Brownback to the Federal Judicial Nominating Task Force. She serves on several Kansas Bar Association committees and is a former member of the Board of Governors of both the Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel. She is also a past President of the Kansas Bar Association Litigation Section. Deb is listed in the Best Lawyers in America and in Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers. She was also selected by the National Trial Lawyers Association as a Kansas Top 100 Trial Lawyer and is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.
Deb is a frequent CLE lecturer and has presented to numerous groups, including the Kansas Claims Association, the Kansas Association of County Counselors, the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel, the Kansas Women Attorneys Association, the Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, among others. Additionally, she is active in her community and has served two terms as President of the Board of Directors of the Salina Area YWCA and two terms as President of the Board of Directors of the Great Plains Theater Festival in Abilene, Kansas.
Deb has two children: Alex and Allison.
